Northeastern University is a private research university located in Boston, Massachusetts. The campus spans Boston's neighborhood areas of Back Bay, Fenway, and Roxbury Crossing.The history of the university dates to 1898, with the opening of "Evening Institute for Young Men" by the directors of YMCA. As years passed by, more academic programs were added, and the institute officially changed its name to Northeastern College in 1916.After a period of six years, the college was converted to "Northeastern University of the Boston Young Men's Christian Association."In 1935, the College of Liberal Arts was added and, in 1937, the Northeastern University Corporation was established.Later, in 1948, the university completely separated from the YMCA and came to be known as Northeastern University.The colleges/schools maintained by the university are the Bouve College of Health Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Computer and Information Science, College of Criminal Justice, College of Engineering, School of General Studies, School of Law, School of Professional and Continuing Studies, and School of Technological Entrepreneurship.As a national research university, Northeastern is home to 28 interdisciplinary research centers and institutes. National Sciene Foundation (NSF)-funded science and engineering research center, an NSF-funded nanotechnology center, and a NASA-funded commercial center are the prominent ones.The university also has a number of educational centers with a prime focus in business management, school and community Outreach, and teaching and learning. In addition, continuing education programs are available.The Disability Resource Center provides services to students with disabilities. There is an English Language Center inside the campus for those seeking to further their English-as-a- Second-Language skills.In addition to these, Northeastern University offers four library facilities and a broad range of academic and administrative computer resources to the students, faculty, and staff.
