The Argyrosaurus is a sauropod that lived in Argentina in the Cretaceous period, from which only the legs and some vertebrae have been recovered, which have allowed estimating that it was 8 meters high, between 20 and 30 meters long, and weighed between 12,000 and 13,000 kg.
The discovery of the Argyrosaurus
The type species, Argyrosaurus superbus, was described by Richard Lydekker in 1893, when the remains of his hind leg were found, including the humerus, ulna, radius, and the five metacarpals.
When found, the member was apparently separated from a complete skeleton, but during excavation, the other remains were completely destroyed.
In 1929, Friedrich von Huene found several more specimens of the Argyrosaurus in the province of Santa Cruz
Some scientists believe that some of the remains found are of a great Antarctosaurus.
